So as strange as it feels, I've decided to make a blog. The reason being it is just so much easier to update everyone on what I'm up to and when this way. I barely have any time when I'm at home and have internet access, and replying to lengthly messages and saying similar things about what I've been up to just isn't feasible!
This way I thought would be much easier and simpler, and I can show pictures and things too.
SO. At the moment, I am at home in my house in Malaysia. I recently got moved out of Singapore into a house in Johor Bahru, which is a city in the very South of Malaysia, about an hour away from Singapore by public transport. Its a very different place to Singapore though, much more rough, dirty, and very much more suited to me. I really like it here. I share a room with one other girl (Alex) and live in a flat with 4 other boys (although 1 is never here, he lives with his girlfriend). We are living in a condo with a swimming pool, gym and squash courts which is really nice. It really feels like I am at uni again here, having to cook for myself and live in such a small space with so many people, but I really like it. There is always something going on and you basically never stop - hence why I am finding it so hard to keep in contact with everyone!
The past few months have been really awesome - I have had ups and downs but now I am back on track and my mind is in a good place at the moment.
At the beginning of April I went to Tioman for a holiday with Charlie, which was awesome. We went to this place called Nipah, which is a very remote little gathering of a few people in the south of the island. There is no shops or anything, just two little places to stay. No internet or phone connection, no hot water. Very basic, very pure and very raw. It was incredible. The rainforest there is basically untouched, we saw so much wildlife, from flying squirrels, porcupines and mouse deer, to an endemic snake species that was thought to be extinct. We did so much, and packed our days full of exploring, going snorkelling and trekking and doing tonnes of photography and reading. There were sharks, turtles and stingrays everywhere.
Most of all, it was such a great time for me and Charlie for our friendship. It really bought us a lot closer, and the dynamic of our friendship was awesome.
Unfortunately, shortly after this trip, Charlie was feeling really down, and not happy working out here anymore. So he left, and moved back to England. Since then I have felt very lonely, and was finding it hard to keep myself happy here.
But more recently I have become a lot more comfortable, and gained more confidence in my teaching skills and my knowledge in the field. I just got back from a trip with UWC (United World College) which is one of the best schools in the world. Its campus is literally insane, and kids have to pay so much to go there. I was really nervous because I'd heard that it would be a really hard trip, with lots to live up to. But it went so well, and the teachers were really impressed, and the kids were awesome. Well, they were more young adults rather than kids. I really feel like I've made some genuine friends out of the trip, and I feel a lot more relaxed in the job after this week.
I now have 4 days off so finally I might get to sort things out. Hopefully I can skype various people and arrange a few plans for summer/my birthday, and get my feet back on the ground a bit, because its just been go-go-go for the past few months.
I miss you all very much xxx
